What We Believe

We, the body of believers at Highland Avenue Baptist Church, believe in one true God who created all that is. The one true God is manifested as a Holy Trinity; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We further believe that the Holy Bible is the inerrant, divinely inspired Word of God, and it is the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He came to Earth and lived as a man, but He was also fully God. This Jesus Christ, being without sin, was crucified and buried, and He rose from the grave on the third day. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus Christ paid the debt for the sins of all humankind, and ascended into Heaven to prepare a place for those who believe. Salvation from sin can only come through belief in Jesus Christ, and no other, and it is freely available to all who call on His name. Jesus Christ will return one day as He promised, to complete His redemptive mission, and bring final judgment for all. As believers, Jesus Christ dwells within all of us as our Lord and Savior. We also believe that the church is the Bride of Christ, established by Jesus, and it is an important and necessary component of a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. The church’s mission is four-fold:

  1. To bring praise and glory to the Lord God Almighty;
  2. To nurture, edify, and educate the body of believers;
  3. To spread the Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ by sharing the Gospel with the entire world;
  4. To minister to and serve the surrounding community and the entire world.
